Change is coming!

In moncheoPR.411 on July 8, 2009 at 12:04 PM

So. Shortly after my previous post, my husband, my dog, and myself created the perfect storm which resulted in my laptop crashing onto the floor and dying. Even though it was very interesting to see what a MAC crash looked like, I wish I had never had to see it. The result: total Hard Drive failure, total data lost, and one month without a computer.

ARGH!

But, Apple replaced the HD and I am back to work. So once I download the 5 gazillion pictures stuck inside my new camera (afraid to delete them), and once I set up Time Machine to back-up my data every single second, I will do some stuff around here regarding moncheo and a possible other blog.

Very excited and let's see what's to come.

Smooches!

Grabbed by the neck!

In moncheoPR.411 on June 11, 2009 at 12:42 AM

I'm trying to translate "Cogía de cuello" but am not doing so well. ;o) But it literally means grabbed by the neck and it means you've been caught red-handed. Oh, there it is! "Caught red-handed." Well, almost. 'Cause being "caught red handed" kinda implies you've been caught with your "Manos in the masa" or "Hands in the dough." There, that makes it relate to food and this blog. Which in turn mean you've "been made" or caught doing something wrong or caught stealing (gasp) or even in this case, kinda being reprimanded, or being asked what the heck or even kinda like being shaken or slapped to wake up and smell the coffee. (And the award for run-on sentence of the evening goes to moncheo! Thank you! Thank you!)

moncheo M.I.A.

In moncheoPR.411 on September 1, 2008 at 12:34 PM

Yes folks. I’ve been away for a few weeks but I’m back on track. I hope. Forgot to leave a sign saying "On Vacation" or "Will Re-open soon" or "Back from lunch at…" 🙂 Mala mia…

Back to chatting about food is all that matters. So in a day or two I’ll post up a visit to one of Puerto Rico’s 336545267832 "BBQ Chicken" places.

Now here lies the debate of BBQ and PR. Our BBQ chicken really ain’t BBQ. I still haven’t figured out WHY it’s called BBQ. except that maybe back in the day, the Rotisserie, I mean PR BBQ Chickens, were cooked over an open flame. But just an open flame don’t make food BBQ. BBQ, to most, involves smoke (as in the smoke flavoring from wood). But we’ll see. Our chicken labeled BBQ is actually just Rotisserie Chicken, which is a cooking method all on its own. As is BBQ.

But regardless if it is or isn’t real BBQ, we all know it’s delicious!!! Or at least it usually is delicious.

So heads up, we’re back.

¡Buen provecho!

Extra

¡Hola¡ Some people have asked when we’ll be writing, cooking, etc. How often do we post? What’s next? So we came up with a basic schedule that we plan on following (as best as possible) barring any acts of nature. The posting schedule is as follows:

Site News: Ratings are up!

In moncheoPR.411 on June 2, 2008 at 10:53 PM

We decided to bite the bullet and develop a rating system. Not a fan of the stars or symbols, and thinking a rating of 3 out of 5 Quenepas would’ve been confusing to most, we decided to have simple words as a rating system. We tossed around a few ideas and settled on the following:

In moncheoPR.411 on May 23, 2008 at 8:58 PM

¡WEPA my gente! moncheoPR is now up and running!

We’re here to blog about Puerto Rico’s culinary scene. From chinchorros to fine-dining, every eatery, every spot, and as many events as possible will be covered. Our mission is to give aplausos to those who are doing an excellent job, while handing out a few cojías de cuellos to those who have a few hiccups that need fixing. And yes, Spanglish will be part of it all.
